It was the colony of the city of Andros around 650 BC and was one of the biggest and wealthiest colonies in Halkidiki and the most powerful harbour of the region. Ancient Akanthos stretched in three hills of the Stratoniko mountain, in an 560 acre area, approximately 600m southeast from the Ierissos settlement.

Ierissos, a hidden gem of Halkidiki’s third peninsula, is a charming coastal town that combines tranquility and historical significance. Its less touristy atmosphere provides a more authentic Greek experience, allowing visitors to interact with friendly locals.
